Domain name for better recognition

April 28, 2008

Domain name can be paramount to your keyword choice.  If you are selling something to do with ‘pets’ the world ‘pets’ should be in your domain.

This counts for huge weight with Google and you should use this strategy at all costs.

Content is king – the old story

March 3, 2008

‘Content is king’ is somewhat of a broken record statement.  But it does work in some ways by getting people to link to you either because

- you offer great info on a topic

- you offer a tool that people use regularly e.g.to check search engine listings.

It’s worth noting that time and money goes into the above – it’s not a free gimmick.

Google slams paid links – about time!

October 26, 2007

As link popularity seems to control everything……and links are king, people who have been buying links on directories or popular blogs/websites are now being penalised.

It’s a manual penalisation, where MATT CUTTS has individually dropped a bunch of sites which have being buying links to boost their link popularity.

This would suggest you shouldn’t do the same, buy links.

Establishing organic links is the only way forward.  That will always slip under the radar but of course is more tricky.  I still believe link exchange works.

Links and links and links

July 16, 2007

Linking is important ranking guide for search engines.

If you have links pointing to your website that increases your ranking.

Quality of links is good also – a high quality link from a relavent website may be worth x10 or x20 regular links.

An example would be a good link from About.com pointing to your website.  Furthermore it would be ‘on-topic’.

In any case relevant links are worth lots.  Irrelevant links still carry a value and should be ignored either.

HTML tagging….

July 2, 2007

The easiest way to work out what meta tags work for you is to find your competitors web pages.

Take a selection and analysis the code.

You should pick a maximum of 15 search terms, the fewer the better.

Whatever meta tags are working for the top 10 in Google, work on them.

Simple.

The basic principal of search engines

June 7, 2007

Search engines are designed to filter all the data on the internet and bring from the crap, the good stuff.

In the old days, people managed to put porn websites in under the search terms for ‘disney’ etc.

Now such advance alogirthms as used in Google do away with all this.

Search engine placement is determined by

- HTML tags and the HTML document

- link popularity

I’ll hopefully talk a bit more on this in the future posts, but above is the basic forumlae to achieve a good listing.
